A celebration of local agriculture will feature music by two members of the Leahy family and a meal prepared by seven area chefs using local ingredients, the organizer of the Lakefield event says.
Lakefield Local Harvest will take place at Isabel Morris Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 16.
Laurie Collette told The Examiner last night that she created the event to celebrate the new farmers’ market that will be held in Lakefield on Thursdays starting in May next year.
“It’s just a fun night out to support local farming and celebrate the market,” she said. “We have so many farmers in the Kawarthas, particularly around Lakefield.”
The farmers’ market is being organized by the members of the community, Collette said.
“It’s brand new,” she said. “They’ve had council meetings about it… All the details aren’t set.”
Isabel Morris Park and the arena parking lot are two locations being discussed as potential sites for the market, Collette said.
Collette pulled together the Leahy family and Bronwen Perks, who has been calling square dances for more than 15 years, to provide the musical entertainment at Lakefield Local Harvest.
The meal will be prepared by chefs Jay Nutt, from Nuttshell Next Door, Jacqui Turner, of Cassis Bistro, Karrie Galvin, from Riverhouse Co., Greg Floyd, of Ward Street Grill in Bridgenorth, David Franklin, of Sysco Central Ontario Inc., and Eric Percy, from Falstaff Catering in Fenlon Falls.
Tickets are being sold at Happenstance Books and Riverhouse Co. for $20 for adults and $10 for children aged four to 12. Children three and under get in free. Any proceeds will go toward the Lakefield farmers’ market.
